Chateau Civrac - new claret

Element du Chateau Civrac 2007

Element is a single varietal (Merlot) made from the 2007 harvest. It is a light and very fruity merlot with a light oak finish; more like a Pinot Noir. It is only 11.5% and is a perfect complement to poultry, pasta, fish or just with friends...

We are really proud to say that 'Element' has been selected as house Merlot for both; 2 star Michelin chef Michael Caines 'Abode Hotels' group, and 1 star Nathan Outlaws Marina Villa Hotel.

This is what Richard Hemming of Jancisrobinson.com says...

Élément de Ch Civrac 2007 Côtes de Bourg 16.5 Drink now
100% Merlot, but made in the style of Pinot Noir. Strawberry, slight stalk tones, definite earthy and gamey character. Certainly akin to Beaune with smoke, light body, and light tannin. In fact, this is so Pinot-esque in style they had difficulty in achieving the Côtes de Bourg classification, the powers that be claiming it was too atypical to carry the appellation. Easy-going but absolutely spot-on and decidedly better than many low-priced Merlots or Pinots, offering a very decent level of complexity. 11.5% (RH)

Chateau Civrac is a fruity, rich and long lasting ‘new claret’

Chateau Civrac is a fusion of the quality of the old world, but with the approachability of the new. "Our wine is a classic blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and malbec but made in a contemporary and honest style.

Chateau Civrac is made with respect for nature

Our wine is hand harvested to get the best flavours, maturing the wine in new oak barrels and minimising any chemical treatments. It is a pleasure to drink with or without food."

Hand harvested grapes

We are taking a very high quality, but respectful approach to winemaking, a "slow" approach, including hand harvesting and minimising any chemical treatments. This is leading to a fusion wine of distinctive quality.
